Hello! This website is reminiscent of the mid 2000s when the Internet wasn't a total dumpster fire. It's so very cute, and your passion just seeps through the entire thing! Keep it up!

Hiya Tan! :) Thank you so muchhh! Hearing that is truly the best compliment I could get :3 I think the reason the mid-2000s internet felt so special is exactly because it was just regular people pouring their hearts into their personal corners of the web without worrying about it getting metrics. I'm just trying to keep a tiny piece of that spirit alive, and really appreciate the encouragement hehe! ^_^

Hello, I want to let you know the reason why I feel inspired by your blog, cause since I have been writing my own stuff, I want to create something that I could write on like my own blog, or a virtual journal.. That's why I got into Nekoweb, I didn't know it was a indie web, but I never thought I have to do coding and html, which can be hard to do, even though I have a hard time picking websites last year to write something on, but all I want is just a cozy site, that's what I have been thinking for some time.

Ronin! :) I'm so sorry for the late reply! I get you so much though, we get so caught up in finding the perfect place for our words that it actually stops us from writing them. Hmm... If coding is causing too much trouble, there is absolutely zero shame in using a pre-made template just to get your thoughts out. The most important thing is the writing itself; the code can always come later. I mean you can literally see it in practice here :) But if you need any help, you know where to find me~ Thank you so much! 🩷

Hi! Now and then I return to your article "The long way is the shortcut". You've really eloquently expressed the motivations for and losses brought by rushing games. I used to have a habit of playing games while listening to long youtube videos. Looking back I wonder - if I felt the need to multitask while playing my favourite games, are they really worth being favourites? Now if I'm playing a game, I play the game, and if I get bored, I do something else. So simple! I engage much more with each game, so I think more and form more opinions, and so I remember my time spent playing much more. I feel this makes it seem like I've spent more time relaxing. I also have more to talk about with my friends. A big win for taking things slower.

Hello there! That's so true; I feel like when we multitask, our brain doesn't fully internalize the experience of either activity, so two hours of gaming and youtube just becomes a moment you'll just forget in a day. By cutting out the other thing, you’re actually experiencing the art as one whole, instead of a passive thing. And I feel realizing that distinction allows you to stop treating leisure time like a checklist and actually respect your own downtime and enjoy yourself fully. I’m really glad the article helped you!! :)

Found your blog from the recent critical distance roundup and I’m having a great time reading through things! Your piece on the Johto Pokemon games hits the nail on the head for so much of what makes those games special. They just had a sense of time and place that I feel very few games match quite the same way. Very melancholy too - I think playing Pokemon Silver and Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening as a tiny kid changed my brain chemistry and primed me for loving a certain kinda tone. Thanks for all you do!! And hope this finds you having a good day!!

Hi there, and thank you so much!! ^_^ They really did alter our brain chemistries, didn't they? Omg, Link's awakening is a really good one too! I think playing games with that specific kinda feel at a young age really does prime you to look for that depth in art later in life. It sets a high bar! It’s so cool how these experiences managed to convey such a complex emotional feeling that even the modern ones struggle to find. Thank you again for the kind words, and you too! 😊

A happenstance visit to Critical-Distance introduced me to your site about a month ago, and I couldn't have been any luckier. Your writings have been a pleasure to read, so-much-so, that I've to exercise self-restrain not to binge :D. Thank you for reinvigorating my appreciation for video games and art. As well, thank you for making the end of 2025 less unbearable. I'm grateful to have be a new reader, and wish you well in 2026. Ok bye.

Hi crimsonbloom! You have absolutely made my day. ^_^ The urge to binge is the best kind of problem to have, thank you for such high praise! It really means the world to me that you’ve connected with the writing here and that it helped you in (any) way. Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind note. I’m wishing you all the best for 2026, and I’m so glad you’re sticking around! 🩷👋🏾

Hullo! My friend Brooke sent me your site when I was complaining about the homogenization of the internet and I'm so delighted to cruise through your wonderful little space here <3 (Also! It seems like your route to the guestbook has the themes and changelog tabs available, and doesn't have the theme dropdown either. Not sure that's intentional or not but wanted to let you know!)

Replied on: January 28, 2026 at 3:11:22 AM

Oh, this made my day! Sorry for the late reply!! Please tell Brooke (She commented below, no?) I said thank you! I completely agree with you about the state of the internet, so I'm delighted that you found some joy in this little space :3 Let's keep the web weird! As for the guestbook glitch, you caught me! >_< I'm totally aware of it, but life has just gotten in the way of me squashing that bug. I really appreciate the heads-up though! Thanks again! <3

I stumbled in here from the brilliant Purity and Plauge post you wrote, and holy smokes I'm obsessed with your website design. A theme picker?? Hell yeah. Also all the multifarious styles of the blog posts, etc. This is what the internet is for. Thanks for being a radical human and making cool stuff.

Thank you so much, Mason! I just wanted to make this place my digital home, and my home has the love for the internet and thigns I've always wanted other sites to have. And I've also just fallen in love with the art of coding and finding out how (and if) I can make something happen, and I usually can xD You'll definitely see more of that around here~

Hi! I found your site through your blog post 'The Digital Chastity Belt' and afterwards read '404: The Internet You Tried to Remember Still Exists'. Came here to say they were both really pleasant readings. I really like your insights how you articulate yourself. :) Will definitely come back for more of your writings.

I can't really imagine a site making a better first impression on me than this one! 'you should play bad games' really spoke to me--it expertly puts into words the level of love and empathy I try to have for 'bad' art. the site itself is also so, so cute!! It was a big inspiration for me to finally put together my own website. Thank you for bringing this little corner of the internet to life! As an aside, your bluesky icon is wicked cute! Is it from something specific, or handmade for you?

Replied on: November 9, 2025 at 4:38:10 AM

That's so damn kind- oh my goodness! Thank you! I'm so flattered my site helped you in any way ^_^ Oh, I made it myself! I do a lot of pixel art on the side, if you check my gallery, or bluesky, for that matter haha Again, thank you Luci! That was a wonderful message to greet my morning with :)
